Today we have an interview with Samantha, home organizer and longtime blogger at Simply Organized.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

I’m Samantha – a professional organizer, National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) member, blogger, DIY’er, small business owner, and mother of three. I run my organization business, Simply Organized, here in the San Francisco Bay Area, working with mothers and families to help create better home systems and efficient households. My college degree is in Counseling and have found it to be incredibly useful in my business. I’m a San Francisco native and love everything Northern California. Especially my Giants!

2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

I started my blog, Simply Organized, during a time when my children were all home, when they were too young for school and in need of constant attention. They are still in need of attention these days (who am I kidding – ha!), but during that time, I wasn’t able to work outside the house as much as I am now. The blog was a great way to share my projects and inspire people everywhere to get organized simply and easily. Blogging is a great way to connect with fellow organizers and diy’ers. But more importantly, it’s a great way to share your projects with a bigger audience. An audience that isn’t local and out of my reach to work with in-person. I enjoy the sharing aspect of blogging and the ability to work with amazing companies. I’ve had incredible opportunities come my way via blogging. So grateful a good friend encouraged me to start a blog. Never imagined I’d be where I am today!

3. How would you describe your design style?st. louis home organization samantha

My design style is clean and simple, yet comfortable and do-able. So many times we see these amazing images online that aren’t easily attainable. I try my best to keep organization projects within a reasonable budget and do-able for anyone. I love a comfortable, yet classic and clean design. Something you can count on and live with for several years.

4. Where do you find most of your inspiration?

To be honest, most of my inspiration comes from within. With my young children, home improvement projects, and busy small business, I have very little time to browse around online or read magazines. A lot of my inspiration comes from the clients I work with or my time spent with family and friends. I love to hear their stories and experiences, and through helping them achieve their organization dreams, I gain so much inspiration. I also spend a lot of time with colleagues and my fellow NAPO members – there is an endless source of inspiration from my professional organization peers.

5. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

Recently, I have several projects I’m proud of because they have each taken a lot of time and patience, but I’ve also enjoyed working with my clients to make them happen. And many of these are large-scale garage projects. I enjoy completely transforming a large wide open space and creating zones where families can make the most of their garages – essentially creating an additional room or two out of the space – workout areas, storage areas, gift wrap areas, an open space for the car to actually pull into the garage, etc. I’m very proud of the work I do and nothing thrills me more than hearing someone say “I never thought this was possible,” or “I never realized how much space I had!”
